Skirts in the Forest: a virtual staged reading

We are honoured and delighted to have won the third prize in the Ottawa Little Theatre’s 79th Annual National One-Act Playwriting Competition for Skirts in the Forest.

Ordinarily, the Ottawa Little Theatre would be doing staged readings of their winners, but in the year 2020, going to the theatre is more dangerous than usual – so our audience tuned in with the magic of the internet instead, to cheer on our actors and director as they wandered off into the woods once more.

Skip to 30:00 to get straight to the play! Well, the preamble.

Four cross-dressing Shakespearean heroines run into each other in the Forest of Lost Plots. They’re feisty, they’re fighting, they’re directionally challenged, and Hamlet keeps getting on their case. With only the Complete Works of Shakespeare to guide them, they have to navigate through the tragedies without too much murder, mayhem, or saying ‘Macbeth.’
